statement
As I reflect on my artistic journey this year, I'm excited to share the evolving direction of my work and the inspirations that are shaping it.
Embracing Transformation: "The Weaving"
One of my recent pieces, The Weaving, marks a significant shift in my creative process. This work is a fusion of two earlier portraits—one featuring roses and another depicting a woman with a rare butterfly. By literally weaving these canvases together, I've created a new narrative that speaks to the interconnectedness of stories and identities. This piece is currently on display at the MGTO Gallery in Maungaturoto, offering viewers a glimpse into this new phase of my artistry.
Celebrating Roots: "Family Trees" and "Sunflowers"
Living in the countryside of Northland for the past seven years has deeply influenced my work. In Family Trees, I explore themes of heritage and place, capturing the essence of rural landscapes and the quiet strength of familial bonds. Similarly, Sunflowers reflects the vibrant beauty of the natural world around me, with its open spaces and ever-changing seasons. Both pieces are part of the current exhibition at MGTO Gallery, inviting viewers to connect with the familiar and the nostalgic.
Looking Ahead: A Year of Exploration
This year, I'm committed to pushing the boundaries of my creative expression. Whether through reimagining past works or delving into new themes inspired by my surroundings, I aim to create art that resonates on a deeper level. I invite you to join me on this journey, to explore these narratives, and perhaps find a piece that speaks to your own story.
Thank you for being part of this evolving adventure.
Warm regards, Erika
